What a rollercoaster year!
I'd say we've all been fighting the unknown this year, with Brexit looming it's definitely had an impact. From the various markets Admin Gofer has been involved with from the local builder to city based IFA's and all that falls in between, everyone has noticed an impact. Not drastic, thank goodness but a hesitant inching this year, as opposed to previous leaps foward due to uncertainty of outcomes.
I don't profess to have answers but I have noticed that we all want to walk away from the day having achieved a better understanding of our customers and what drives their buying patterns. We can't control it all and sometimes, we get scuppered by the competition offering cheaper alternatives or more flexibility in their delivery. We can adjust in some cases, but not in all if the current logtistics don't support it and whilst I believe in looking at cost margins, I think there's something that we need to remind ourselves of and that is, there is an inherent value in you, the business owner/MD, Ops Director/Adviser.
If it weren't for you and your knowledge of not only what you offer, but your market and your customer within that realm, then you wouldn't be in the best position to help your client achieve their aims. Nothing is achieved over night and if it is, someone somewhere in the chain is normally having an 'ooops' moment.
Most of us personalise our experiences to manage our circles, it's how most of us tick as people, we need to attain a 'click' point with that person to allow the mutual working together and all that that entails, when we fall outside that relationship to enable us to get the better, shinier deal, we risk the end goal as not all business turns out to be equal.
I believe in competition; it keeps us on our toes, but I don't believe in trading understanding for a short-term price gain. If anything, this year has proved that we need to keep asking relevant questions about the why and how, so that we can benefit our customers, adapt to their needs and there should be a mutual trust between client and supplier that enables questioning of the entrenched ways that will enable perhaps new routes foward, or at least a deeper understanding of why and that can only be a good thing for all of us.
I'd like to say a thank you to all my clients this year, it's been a positive year for Admin Gofer and I sincerely hope that it continues throughout 2018 for all of us.
